Mid Century Dresser DIY

Guess what I found???!!

I finally found a mid-century dresser set I could afford, for $50 at a Salvation Army.  They need work, but they're lovely and worth the effort.  I sanded them and put on a coat of primer, now all I have to do is decide on a paint color!

They're covered in yellow tar and scratches, but all the handles are present, and the drawers are intact.

Someone tried refinishing the veneer, but gave up after two drawers...

Primered and sitting in my driveway....

You can't see the lovely lines in the pic, but you will when I'm finished.  I'm thinkin' lime green for my bedroom, what color should I paint the dressers????????????

Outdoor Inspiration

Now that I'm a little closer to havin' a shindig-worthy outdoor area, I'm droolin' over lovely back yards and patios more than ever.  Here are a few of my favorites...

Scary Side Yard

I've blogged before bout' my scary side yard challenges, but I didn't have a picture of just how scary it is...until now.

I've done some weed pulling and lots of raking since then, and even arranged some of my retro outdoor furniture (not pictured) but I still have a long way to go!

I planned on trying to grow grass, but I realized it wouldn't survive in this limited space between all the lawn furniture, a chicken coup and my dog running back and forth.  Now I'm thinkin' rocks or granite.

My hubby has a mobile (in pots) victory garden growing in the front of the house where the sun lives, and we plan to fill some of our larger, mid century planters with plants that like shade.  The shade provided by our trees has actually turned out to be wonderful in this summer heat.

Ch, ch, cha, changes!

I found curtains!

I went a' browsin' through one of our antique stores a couple days ago (I should have known better) and found the dreamiest vintage barkcloth drapes!

I couldn't pass em' up! Two extra large panels, and I got em' for a good deal because one of the edges was frayed.  I mended the edge and hung em' up right away.

Matching curtains to my vintage floral couch hasn't been an easy feat and these drapes, although fabulous, still clashed pattern wise.  I decided to move the couch to the opposite wall, to separate the patterns; can't believe I didn't think of that sooner.  Look at it now!

I love how the colors compliment each other!

Rearranging the furniture led to more rearranging, so I took some more pics...

It's finally here!

The article about my kitchen is finally here!
I while back I mentioned that I was interviewed for an article in a magazine that is pumped out by my local paper, The Mail Tribune; it's called Homelife, and today it's out!
