The New, Old Furniture!

..As I mentioned in my last post, I got a new couch and chair for free off craigslist.org.  Here's my chartruese arm chair (the pics don't do it justice).

and my new lamp....

I'm thinkin' bout paintin' the legs of this ottoman, off-white or black, or maybe just sanding them and applying a clear finish???

My hubby was going to throw knives at this, but I thought it was awesome, so it's on the wall now.  We found it at an antique shop for $5.

The new floral couch didn't match my beautiful barkcloth curtains, but I moved them to the bedroom, so all is well.  Meanwhile, I need to find new curtains and a rug. I put up red drapes temporarily, but I'm not really happy with them. I'm thinkin' a peachy, vintage pink...

Any ideas???

Barkcloth Cafe Curtains

Howdy!

It's been a while, working plus college equals a no time!
I have managed to aquire a new couch and chair, and my pal Laurel, who sells at Vintage Pink, brought me some lovely barkcloth drapes!  She scavenged them just for me, and I thought they'd compliment my kitchen nicely.  I decided to turn them into cafe' curtains, and I'm almost done; here's my progress!

Two split pannels on the bottom of each window, (I plan to make tie-backs with the extra fabric)...

I saved the top with the original pinch pleats, I want to preserve the integrity of the original curtains...just need to hem and install...

Here's a close-up of the fabric; pink flowers, chartruese leaves and green leaves with gold squiggly's, they just don't make em' like that anymore....

V For Victory!

Lately, I've had gardening on the mind.  Since I haven't even planted grass, I've got a ways to go and no time to get it all done.  In addition to no time, I have limited space and no gardening experience.  My yard is actually just slightly bigger than a walkway, that stretches along the back of the house and down the side in the shape of an L.  I get discouraged from time to time, but I know I can create something amazing with any amount of space.  My inspiration?  The Victory Garden!  I just keep imagining all those World War II women, determined to do their part and use what they had.  Here are some vintage photos and posters that  inspired me.

Enjoy!

Love is in the Air

It's that time of year when all those lucky brides-to-be get serious bout' their wedding plans, so I thought I'd share some inspiration from my own weddin' a couple years ago.  My wedding was a vintage-redneck inspired backyard weddin'.  The vintage being my contribution and the redneck my hubby's.  We put it together in 1 month, with the help of our loved ones.

Enjoy!

My other hobby! Music!

I love vintage music as much as I love vintage decor!  Check out my old timey inspired tunes over at my Miss Elly Swift facebook music page.

My kitchen in a magazine!

Yesterday, I was interviewed and photographed in my kitchen for the local paper's monthly home magazine.  It was just what I needed to get the lead out and finally finish my kitchen cabinets.  A while back I re-painted the pink walls in a brighter pink called Candy Tuft, and then decided, with the help of my hubby's expertise, to paint the cabinets turquoise.  Here's the finished product!
